Stage 4 develops confidence and independence in the water, plus general and deep-end water safety. The stage-end target is 100 metres of continuous swimming.

Bronze (Stage 4) requires students to swim 100 metres across four strokes and demonstrate rescue and survival skills.

Clothing for assessment. Assessed in swimwear, shorts and t-shirt. Waterlogged clothing increases physical demand and teaches learners to manage drag, simulating real-world scenarios like floods or accidental deep-water entry.
On assessment day. A blue swimming cap is issued to all Stage 4 participants when they arrive at the Centralised Assessment Centre.
